ARTIST PROFILE
ASIEL SHUMAN
CUBA
band: YOYO IBARA // JEYPROD
STICK SIZE: 5a
I started my studies in 2004 in Primary School (4 years), participating in cultural activities and in the musical choir of the school where I learned to play guitar and bongos, gaining recognition at the regional level for my performance.
In 2006, when I was 7 years old, I joined a project for young people in my community dedicated to dances, touches and songs of Afro-Cuban music, there I played batá drums. In high school, I participated in state and national cultural festivals. I was awarded with the first place at the National level; that adventure was incredible.
Between the ages of 8 and 15, I was part of a concert band promoted by the President of the Republic of Cuba. I was once again in the percussion section, giving tours, concerts and playing all kinds of styles and rhythms in each one, all over the country. At this stage, I received an award from the National Organization of Students. I was part of a string orchestra, participated in first-rate television networks and recorded on the radio.
6 years ago I had the opportunity to present myself to the International Contest ¨Fiesta del Tambor¨, the most important of its category in my country and part of Latin America, managing to win first place in the {timbales} competition. I received many merits and awards, then I was interviewed on national radio and television An incredible experience.
After the Contest I was selected to be part of a project under the direction of one of the directors of the Island Council, the project was prepared at the National Lyrical Theater of Cuba and was televised.
Currently I accompany and am part of several groups including Yoyo Ibarra, Jeyprod, William el Magnifico etc. I participated in Various International Festivals, Mexico, in Aruba and counting.
WHY DO YOU PLAY COLLISION?
I currently play with sticks 5A. What makes me fall in love with the Collision brand is the sensation and sensitivity it offers to the instrumentalist. I am the first artist in Cuba to sign with the brand and I have to say, after having played with almost all the brands …. I would use Collision Drumsticks again and again. I would recommend Collision for all of the above and also for the wonderful support they constantly provide to the artist. I am always proud to say. I am a Collision artist. Thank you.
