ARTIST PROFILE
Greyson Smith
Lake Jackson, TX, USA
band: Dawson Drake Band
STICK SIZE: 5A
As a 34-year veteran of percussion, Greyson, commonly recognized as That Blue Haired Drummer or “Blue”, has graced many stages across Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. With decades of experience across multiple genres he, blends a little bit of everywhere he’s touched into a clean and dynamic style – borrowing from hard-hitting rock, nimble pop-punk and ska, lively folk, and the lighter groove and pocket of Country/Western – which he continues to refine and develop with new contributions. Coming from a musical family, Greyson shared the stage with his father Randall Smith (Bassist for “Southern Comfort” and “SRO [Standing Room Only]”, among others) throughout his childhood; growing up in the shadow of the mainstage and learning early on to love the limelight. Being raised on stories of his father’s exploits – touring Brazil and opening for big acts like Alabama and Eddy Raven – set Greyson on a path he simply could not deny. In a very literal sense, music runs in his blood. After supporting many artists both live and in the studio in pursuit of that path, Greyson now resides as the backbone and driving force for rising Texas Country star Dawson Drake. Greyson, along with bandmates Kaleb Gordon and Coleson Trevor, has been tearing through the Texas music scene from Rodeos to Festivals clear across the Lone Star State – and beyond. With Greyson as their beating heart, the quartet is carving a name for themselves as one of the best all-around bands in the area. In 2023 alone, they crushed Houston’s Battle of the Bands with their rendition of Prince’s “Purple Rain”, were voted #1 Up and Coming Artist in the “Cream of the Crop” competition for the Houston area, and have shared the stage with long-standing acts Reckless Kelly, The Bellamy Brothers, Creed Fisher, The Damned Quails, Jake Worthington, and more. Nothing seems to slow them down. And with the New Year just around the corner, Greyson is using that momentum to not only propel the band further into the Texas Country spotlight but also to branch out into the realm of Solo artist. With his signature blue locks front and center, what started as a stage-side joke is now his official handle as ThatBlueHairedDrummer evolves into a project all its own.
