ARTIST PROFILE
Josh Tilton
Des Moines, Iowa/ United States
band: gimikk
STICK SIZE: 5A
Josh has been playing drums for 34 years. A self-taught drummer, he is one of the most admired drummers in Iowa. He grew up in Florida learning music of all different genres and found himself drawn to drummers like Carter Beauford, Travis Barker, Adrian Young and Chad Smith. He relocated to Nashville where he played at various venues on Broadway and recorded multiple demos for up and coming artists. After moving to Iowa in 2008, he joined up with multiple local acts such as country artist Sydney Lett and his current band gimikk, one of the Midwest’s most popular cover bands. Headlining festivals and filling music venues, they put their unique spin on all of the classic arena rock anthems you’d expect along with newer pop and rock hits anchored by Josh’s driving beats. He describes his playing in gimikk as percussive acrobatics but also knows when to just lay back and provide the backbone to a groove. He can be found on all of the usual social media channels.
WHY DO YOU PLAY COLLISION?
I’m playing the 5A because it gives me the agility to move around the drums and not weigh me down, but the weight and diameter of stick that feels great in my hands. Plus I get just a little bit of extra length that I didn’t get in 5As in other brands. I also love that the stick has a finish to it that allows my hands to grip it without it slipping out when they get a little sweaty. I would highly recommend giving these a try.
