band: Session Drummer
STICK SIZE: 7A
I am Kat Ryan, a seventeen-year-old Aussie drummer, who has been playing drums for the past two and a half years. On the 1st of January 2018, my mum bought a drumkit; it was a $100, five-piece, silver Zenon, with no name heads and cracking hi-hat cymbals.
My mum intended on the kit just being bit of fun, to keep us all entertained for the school holidays and planned on throwing it out at the end of the holidays… little did she know I was going to fall in love with it!
In February 2018 I became a student at Total Music Australia (TMA). This is were I now have drum lessons with Jacob Schilling in which I am currently completing Rockschool London grade 3 drums. Matt and Daniel Jorgensen from TMA run the Next Gen class, leading us to achieve Rockschool London grade 3 theory and grade 5 band. Next Gen is an Instrumental Mastery Class where a group of students learn theory, musicianship, song writing, composition, arranging, music business and performance.
Through YouTube I make covers taking songs and creating the drums in a way I see fits the sound, while changing it slightly to fit my style. Currently I am writing a song with some friends: the bass player is a close friend; the guitarist a classmate in Total Music Australia’s Next Gen class; the vocalist/pianist lives in another city approximately 450km away from us.
As a young musician I am building onto my list of accomplishments; working towards being a music teacher; online artist; touring, research and gaining traction in this industry. I have completed Rockschool London grades debut, one and two drums along with grade one and two theory. I performed at the Total Music Australia Showcase in 2018 playing supersonic by oasis and have played at a school functions with one song called Ten Minutes which was an instrumental original piece with some friends.
That is a bit about my background as an artist and I highly recommend you picking up a pair of Collision Drumstick because like me … I promise you will love them!
