With a background in both Jazz and Rudimental under the direction of Jeff Queen (Blast!), Jay Webb (WGI Hall of Fame), and Bob Burns (Avon High School Music Director), it was hard to transition into pop. What I was taught was that the drummer who can keep the beat will always get the job over the fancy one. I may not be the most naturally talented, but I work hard, and do good.
From the earliest days of drumming, marching for the Avon High School Performance Ensemble and taking home both a Silver and Bronze medal at the WGI World Championships, I’ve always lived by the notion that music is always bigger than just myself. Yes, I have personal accomplishments, from the 2006 Silver Medal Snare Solo in Indiana, to my favorite achievement, making it to the Top 15 at the 2018 Blue Man Group Drum-Off, but it was always about more than just myself. It’s about the people who supported me, my parents who put me through private lessons, the instructors, and EVERY influence I’ve had from Chick Webb to Tommy Igoe. Music is more than just the individual.
I now play with the Penguin Entertainment Agency in Orlando, Florida and play full time at Disney World for Andrew Sapin, as well as other bands like The Absent Trio and Uncle Ted & The Boots. My goal is to always uplift us as a band, as a team, and to always play my part when it comes to the music. I’m always ready to grow as an artist, and I’m ready to grow with Collision.
WHY DO YOU PLAY COLLISION?
As a working musician, the 5A Reach sticks give me all the reliability I need. They’re durable, balanced, and give me a lot of control, which is important when you’re playing in both large and more intimate venues. I love that they are a brand made for musicians, by musicians, and have all the tools you need to give the audience that heartbeat to any song. I recommend Collision Drumsticks because they’re all about the growth of the artists, as well as the music community as a whole.
