ARTIST PROFILE
I have been playing drums for about 6 years, from the age of 15. What started out as a hopeful attempt to pass some time one afternoon has gone on to become something I am very proud of. South Drive was formed by myself and a small group of friends. We are a ‘genre -fluid’, or alt-rock band, with our different musical influences and interests manifesting themselves in our songwriting. In 2016 we released our debut EP ‘Nothing’s Wrong’. As a group of 16 year olds, we were just happy to have released our own music, and the EP peaked at 62nd in the iTunes rock charts.
Following the release of Nothing’s Wrong, we have played numerous shows across London and the South West, most notably at the O2 Academy Islington, which we have played twice. In early 2020 we released our long anticipated second EP, self-titled ‘South Drive’. The response to this blew us away, as the EP peaked at 2nd in the iTunes rock charts and performing well on Spotify too. We are looking ahead to getting back on stage as soon as possible, and have an eye on releasing a full-length album when we feel the time is right.
WHY DO YOU PLAY COLLISION?
I use the 5As and 5BRs, but my main sticks of choice for the last 5 or so years have been the 5ARs.
I love these sticks in particular because they are so unique. Before discovering Collision I hopped between all the other sticks; Vic Firth, Pro Mark, Zildjian etc. To me there really wasn’t much between them. But using Collision’s reach series for the first time, I knew I was playing with sticks that felt unlike anything else out there. Since that first time I haven’t used anything else. For me, it is easy to tell that Collision sticks are really high quality, not only by their unique feel but also because of their immense durability. A pair of these will LAST you. Collision are also very easy to reach. In speaking to Carlton, the CEO, earlier on in this process, I felt as if I was truly part of Collision’s team, and being able to be in contact directly with a company’s owner is not something widely offered.
For all the above reasons I full-heartedly recommend Collision to any drummer of any level. I can guarantee that you will get hooked on these sticks.
PRESS
“What has been a 4 year journey doesn’t seem to be even close to over for these rockers. Be on the lookout for them to make a big splash in the UK music scene where, with their genre-fluid release, any band playing should offer up a spot on the bill.”
