ARTIST PROFILE
Erik Jones
Bell Gardens, California USA
band: Session Drummer
STICK SIZE: 2b
I fell in love with drums at the age of seven when my mom would take me to her rehearsals for Keith Pringle and the Pentecostal Community Choir. I would sit there and watch Gregory Dendy play his heart out and I was like, this is what I want to do.
So at church, I would watch the drummer Melvin Wade Jr and fall under his wing. Melvin gave me my first drum lesson, and from then on I was hooked.
I started officially playing in middle school at Stephen White for their yearly spring concert. Then at Narbonne, the high school I went to I played in the jazz band and the drumline and at El Camino College I did the same.
After college, I went back to play at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church of Los Angeles where I played under Melvin Wade Jr. and the late Robert Yancy. I played for the mass choir and their children’s choir. Then I went on to play for Prosperity Missionary Baptist Church where I’m currently playing now.
I would love to give a special thanks to a few people who drove me to get to where I’m at my mentors Gregory Dendy, Melvin Wade Jr., Gwendolyn Payne, and Robert Yancy(R.I.P).
Currently playing for Prosperity Missionary Baptist Church
